Join the Education Welfare Service (EWS) as an Education Welfare Officer and play a pivotal role in supporting Bristol schools and families to improve attendance. Due to growth, we are looking for dedicated individuals to join our team on a permanent basis.

About Us

The EWS is committed to improving outcomes for children and young people and ensuring that parents and carers fulfil their legal obligations to send their children to school regularly. We are responsible for statutory school attendance enforcement processes under the Education Act 1996 and other associated acts.

As an Education Welfare Officer, you will:

  • Collaborate creatively with schools, academies, parents, carers, children, young people, and other agencies to enhance school attendance.
  • Implement strategies to improve attendance and reduce unauthorised absences across Bristol's maintained, academy, and independent school sectors.
  • Carry out statutory responsibilities related to school attendance and enforcement, including working with Legal Services and the Courts.
  • Work closely with other EWS members and Bristol City Council professionals to ensure the delivery of statutory responsibilities, commissioned requirements, and traded services.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • You must meet all the criteria set out in the person specification including, possess a relevant professional qualification or have equivalent experience gained from working within an Education Welfare or school attendance environment.

Driving Requirements:

  • A full, valid driving licence is essential, along with access to a vehicle that can be used for business purposes.

Support and Training:

  • Comprehensive training and ongoing support will be provided to ensure your success in this role.

Please note that this role is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.
