Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Technician to join our team, responsible for providing exceptional patient care and supporting medication administration processes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in healthcare, particularly as a Pharmacy Technician, and demonstrate a commitment to maintaining high standards of service and safety.
Duties
- Provide direct patient care, ensuring comfort and safety throughout their experience.
- Accurately prepare and label medicines according to prescriptions.
- Select appropriate containers and measure doses correctly.
- Double-check calculations and doses under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Give advice to patients on how to take/use their medication.
- Counsel on side effects, storage, and dosage schedules (within scope and under supervision).
- Order, receive, and store pharmaceutical stock.
- Monitor stock levels, expiry dates, and rotate inventory.
- Dispose of expired or unwanted medicines properly.
- Maintain accurate patient medication records.
- Ensure controlled drugs are handled in accordance with legal requirements.
- Adhere to data protection and confidentiality rules.
- Communicate with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff about prescriptions and medication issues.
- Support clinical screening by identifying anomalies (e.g., drug interactions or dosage errors).
- Assist in the delivery of services such as New Medicine Service (NMS), flu and COVID vaccinations, blood pressure check and minor illness service.
- Help in public health campaigns and patient education.
- Supervise the work of dispensing assistants or pharmacy support staff.
- Work in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Keep up to date with changes in pharmacy law and professional practice.
Requirements
- Previous experience in patient care or as a Dispensing Technician is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of medication administration protocols and patient safety practices.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Attention to detail and strong organisational skills are essential for maintaining accurate records.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
- A compassionate approach towards patient care, demonstrating empathy and understanding at all times.
