Job Overview:
We are seeking a Support Worker to join our team in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with learning disabilities. The role involves assisting with daily activities, offering emotional support, and ensuring the well-being of those under your care. If you have positive vibes, we want to hear from you!
You will be caring for people with autism and some behaviour that may challenge. You will be given training and on the job support within a motivated and well organised team but you will need to be confident in this environment.
At Choices for Life, we are passionate about supporting "squiggly careers" which means enabling people to access new and diverse opportunities to progress their careers. We value your unique talents and what you, as an individual, can bring to the role. You don’t have to tick all the boxes – your ability to learn and adapt is crucial, and we encourage everyone who meets the criteria to apply.
For this role, we would prefer people who are able to drive and work your share of weekends (usually 1 in 4 weeks). The hours for the role are 9 – 4, Monday to Friday, (35 hours).
Duties:
- Personalised Care: Provide tailored care and support to individuals, ensuring their unique needs are met. We like to help others where we can!
- Hygiene Assistance: Help with personal hygiene tasks, including dressing, and toileting, making every day comfortable for those in your care.
- Behaviour Management: Implement strategies to support individuals with challenging behaviours, creating a positive environment for everyone.
- Emotional Support: Offer companionship and emotional support, creating meaningful connections with those you support. We are all friends at Choices!
- Team Collaboration: Work alongside healthcare professionals, such as nurses, to deliver holistic and comprehensive care, as appropriate.
- Safe Environment: Ensure a safe, nurturing, and welcoming environment for everyone under your supervision.
Skills:
- Adult Social Care Experience: Experience in adult social care is a plus!
- First Aid Knowledge: Knowledge of first aid procedures and the ability to respond promptly to emergencies is ideal.
- Behaviour Management: Understanding of techniques to manage and support individuals with complex needs would be a bonus.
- Relevant Experience: Previous experience in care is advantageous, or if you have transferable experience such as hairdressing or gardening.
- Compassionate Nature: A genuine desire to provide high-quality, compassionate care.
If you don’t have any experience, then let us know what skills you have that could be used in our day care centre. For example, gardening or crafts. We have a fabulous allotment that could use some more green fingers! Plus, the Service Users love gardening and sitting in the allotment.
We also have the ability to take our new employees through the fantastic Health Care Certificate, if you don’t have social care experience. You will then receive all the appropriate training while on the job as well as completing the course.
Why Join Us?
- Choices Family: Be part of a team that values individual growth and gives opportunities to develop, whether that be online training or access to more senior tasks to aid in developing.
- Supportive Environment: Work in a supportive setting that encourages continuous learning, development, and fun.
- A Fair Rota: Get your rota a minimum of 4 weeks before with all your shifts on, including weekends so you can plan in advance. (To note, your shifts could change but we give as much notice as possible!).
- Hourly rate: The hourly rate is £11.44 per hour with the option for overtime if you wish.
- TOIL: Going on holiday and don’t want to use your annual leave? You can accrue TOIL while working at Choices for Life, and you can see how much you have with our intuitive internal rota management software!
- Westfield Health: Once you have passed your probation, you will have access to Westfield Health with the opportunity to increase your plan allowance. You can use this to claim money back for optical, dental and physiotherapy!
