This is an opportunity for a tractor driver with specific skills to operate a diet feeder as well as working on the arable unit on our mixed cropped Dairy Farm
We milk approximately 550 holstein and 150 jersey cows twice a day through a new Boumatic 40:40 rapid exit parlour. We are a high yielding housed herd with exceptionally high milk solids and we sell our milk to Saputo to make Cathedral City Cheese. Our housing, milking, feeding and calf rearing facilities are all built in the last 8 years and are designed to make life comfortable for the cows and easy for the dairy team.
We farm around 900 acres and carry out most operations internally. We have all the kit for silage making, we run a lexion combine, haul most of the slurry as well as all the cultivation work ready for and including drilling, and run a fleet of Fendt tractors for the arable work.
As a diet feeder operator and tractor driver you will be responsible for the following areas
Be a key member of the Cow Feeding Team, ensuring that cows are fed accurately and correctly.
Be an integral member of the arable team driving machinery as required.
Ensuring that our machinery is serviced and regularly maintained to ensure that it runs optimally
Provide some relief to the core of the business including occasional yard work and youngstock support
The role will suit someone who primarily has a background in dairy farming, who understands the importance of feed quality and intake on a high output dairy farm. . The successful candidate will need to be a self-motivated individual capable of setting their work schedules for the week. As part of the feeding team you will take responsibility for feeding on week 1 and then week 2 will be general arable and dairy work. The job will be varied and will encourage development of skills and knowledge. Attention to detail is essential, as well as the need to demonstrate that you understand the basics of cow nutrition.
Staff welfare and safety are central to the business and we strive to promote a work and play balance. The shift pattern varies across a 3 weekend rota averaging 45 hours per week and we aim to balance the work periods with plenty of time away from the farm.
If accommodation is required we will work with the successful candidate to ensure that they are settled in the area and will reflect this in the remuneration package offered.
