Country Store Sales Assistant

Clarkes of Walsham has been part of the local landscape for well over a century – one of the largest independent suppliers of Building, Farming and Garden Materials in the region, and now fast becoming a go-to destination for Clothing, Cartridge and Shooting accessories across East Anglian and beyond.
We are looking for a Country Store team member to look after our customers at our retail store in Walsham Le Willows and online through our website. As a team member you’ll guide customers through the shopping process, from the initial greeting to the final purchase. By providing insight and support, you’ll help strengthen our current customer relationships and convert new visitors into repeat shoppers.
Our store contains the very best Country Clothing and Footwear for the whole family, along with Shooting Accessories, Shotgun Cartridges and Ammunition.
You will be required to work a rota which covers a 2-week pattern, this will include weekends and bank holidays. Additional days will be required to cover holidays of other staff. Whilst some flexibility will be required for special events, the standard hours of work will be within the parameters of 32 – 40 hours a week, Monday – Sunday 7.30 to 5pm.
The ideal candidate will have a personality for engaging with customers creating a relationship and when required the ability to resolve any concerns. Online you will understand, maintain and develop an existing Shopify trading platform. Skills required.
- Excellent proven customer service skills in a retail environment and knowledge of country life.
- Sales and marketing skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, face to face, by phone, email and online chat.
- The ability to use IT for day-to-day operations.
- Knowledge and proven practice with the Shopify trading platform
- Physical ability to lift and move stock items up to 20kg in weight.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Proven problem-solving skills.
- An eye for detail.
- Time management and multitasking abilities.
- Self-motivation to work alone, as well as a team, liaising with remote team members as required.
- Decision-making skills.
Job responsibilities.
- Welcoming customers and delivering exceptional service to our customers, resulting in repeat visits and long-term brand loyalty
- Treat customers with respect and courtesy
- Showing customers where to find items or directing them to alternatives or special promotions.
- Informing customers about features and benefits of the products and offer opinions and recommendations as appropriate.
- Administration of the online Shopify website for sales and updating with new products each season, working closely with the marketing team
- Maintain the Shopify platform, with data and changes requested by management
- Carry out regulated products sales within the guidelines given by Firearms regulation. (Training will be given)
- Handling cash, using tills and Point of Sale equipment.
- Working towards sales targets as given by the store manager
- Maintain a tidy shopping environment by cleaning the store daily.
- Increasing sales and giving feedback to the team about new product opportunities
- Rotate and replenish stock on the shop floor.
