Job Description :
Job Title: Coppersmiths & Engineers
Location: Abercrombie Site, Diageo (with travel to other sites as required)
Contract: Permanent, Full-time, Monday – Friday
(No shift work, overtime sometimes available)
About the Role
At Diageo, our craftsmanship, innovation, and dedication to quality set us apart as leaders in the Scotch whisky industry. Based at our Abercrombie site, this role is key to supporting and maintaining process equipment across our Scotch sites, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency.
As part of the Abercrombie Coppersmiths & Engineers team, you will play a vital role in the fabrication, installation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of assets. Working closely with operations, CAPEX teams, and other maintenance groups, you’ll deliver engineering excellence while driving improvements that support Diageo’s ambition to be the best performing, most trusted, and respected consumer products company.
This is a hands-on, varied role that offers the opportunity to work across multiple sites, applying your technical expertise to reduce downtime, improve reliability, and support sustainable performance.
In this Role You Will:
  • Deliver all mechanical maintenance activities across the engineering centre/site according to a weekly/daily asset care plan
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns, conducting fault-finding and repairs to minimise downtime
  • Work closely with Site Managers, Operators, Maintenance Managers, Planners, and Craft groups to ensure planned and unplanned maintenance is implemented efficiently
  • Ensure all activities align with Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality Standards, as well as regulatory requirements
  • Use SAP-PM to raise, update, and record maintenance tasks, as well as track use of mechanical stocks and spare parts
  • Participate in and contribute to Daily Operations Review (DOR) meetings, asset care/CAPEX reviews, and silent season planning
  • Provide subject matter expertise in root cause problem solving (RCPS), driving 100-year fixes to recurring issues
  • Lead and support asset care improvement (IMPROVE) initiatives, ensuring standard methodologies are implemented and shared across sites
  • Support Manufacturing Excellence (TRACC) metric delivery and act as a key point of contact for asset care at site level
  • Analyse performance data, recommend improvements, and contribute to cost-saving initiatives
  • Travel to other sites as required to support engineering and maintenance needs
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need:
  • HNC in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience in a production or service environment (technical and/or management experience beneficial)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive improvements
  • Knowledge of reliability maintenance techniques and SAP-PM systems
  • Proficiency in data analysis, MS Office applications, and business systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to handle and prioritise multiple tasks optimally, with meticulous attention to detail
  • A collaborative team player with the ability to work independently when required
  • Full UK driving licence (must meet requirements for driving company vehicles)
  • Willingness to provide 24-hour breakdown cover as part of a pre-determined rota
Desirable:
  • Time-served engineer with hands-on maintenance experience
  • Knowledge of Distilling and Malting processes
  • Strong presentation skills and critical analytical thinking
This is a permanent, Monday–Friday role, based at Abercrombie site, with occasional overtime and travel to other sites required.
