Overview
We are seeking two dedicated and passionate Cooks to join our cafe team. The ideal candidates will have a strong background in food preparation and a keen understanding of food safety standards. As a Cook, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently, providing delicious meals to our customers. This position requires creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure .
We are looking for two people to work 16 hours between Thursday- Sunday. This could either be alternative weekends or one week day and one day at the weekend. Hours are 8.30am to 4.30pm.
Duties
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to established menu specifications.
- Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with food safety guidelines and hygiene standards.
- Assist in the planning of menus and meal preparation, taking into account dietary restrictions and preferences.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including equipment and utensils.
- Collaborate with volunteers to ensure timely service and quality of food.
- Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, reporting any shortages or needs to management.
- Ensure temperature records are maintained.
- Open and close the cafe at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Ensure kitchen space left clean and tidy and waste is appropriately discarded during the day and at the end of each day.
- Monitor and record relevant steps of food preparation and hot and cold storage, to ensure food is safe for consumption and that Health and Safety guidelines are complied with.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a restaurant or similar culinary environment is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and culinary terminology.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices in a kitchen setting.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also being able to take initiative when needed.
- Excellent organisational skills with an attention to detail in meal preparation.
- Level 2 Food hygiene (preferred).
- A passion for cooking and helping others enjoy great meals.
- Good communicator who is community focussed.
