At Westacres Care Home the role of Cook is a key member of the Catering team. The primary purpose is to prepare food of a high standard which meets dietary and cultural requirements of Newark Care residents. They should assist the Catering team in ensuring that the agreed standards are maintained at all times.
Accountabilities:
- Prepare food that conforms to the home and kitchen standards
- Check the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure that standards are met
- To work in accordance with kosher guidelines.
- Assist in the serving of meals/preparation of the dining room.
- Maintain a professional and welcoming approach at all times when dealing with residents
- Be able to organise their workload with the objective of providing high quality catering
- To ensure that the standards agreed by management are maintained at all times
- Cleaning of the kitchen/dining room and equipment.
- Play an active role in the dining room service whilst assuming a fair share of the workload within the team.
- To keep up to date with current developments in relation to catering and standards and allergy control.
- Assist in the smooth running of the kitchen on a daily basis
- Ensure the kitchen has the stock required to provide an efficient service to the residents and advise the head chef/cook accordingly regarding requirements
- Assist with monthly stock takes
- Ensure that stock is regularly rotated and replenished in accordance with product use by dates and dispose of any out of dates products in accordance with company policy
- Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen at the start, during and the end of the working day
- Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas to ensure conformance to established standards
- Maintain confidentiality regarding the company’s business and resident’s particulars
- Comply with internal company policies, rules and procedures at all times and also comply with care standards
Safety:
- Promote safe working practice within the home in accordance with Health and Safety regulations/Food Hygiene/Infection Control.
- Be familiar with, and follow the company’s health and safety policies and procedures
- Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene at all times
- Be familiar with all home security measures and ensure that the premises are locked and secured at all times
Ensure the safety of the resident’s personal belongings

Pay: £12.51 per hour
