This post will play an active role in the delivery of the Plastic Surgery in general Head and Neck and Microvascular reconstruction service for the Directorate.
You will be providing direct input to patients; contribute to multi-disciplinary teams and participate in the delivery of General Plastic Surgery, including skin cancer as well as a special interest in Breast reconstruction.
You will be promoting high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.
Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to improve Plastics Surgery and Burns services within Lancashire and South Cumbria. This will be in line with the 18-week referral to treatment and national cancer targets. The candidate should have a specialist interest, Breast and Microvascular reconstructions.
Applicants will be expected to have a commitment to working a 7-day working week, with this being potentially required.
The Directorate has plans to expand its Skin Cancer service to include Moh’s Surgery. This post, we are asking for candidates with interest breast and microsurgical reconstructions.
In line with guidance from Public Health England, all staff and volunteers are required to comply with Trust Infection Prevention and Control processes in relation to safe working. This includes mask wearing and adherence to social distancing at all Trust sites.
You will receive the full support of the Trust and the Directorate to develop specialist areas of interest in line with Directorate business plans and the development of services generally within the Trust.
It is the expectation that every member of the consultant body will undertake teaching of undergraduate medical students, other learners and trainees alongside providing clinical care during DCC activities.
The Plastic Surgery and Burns Facility in Preston provides a comprehensive service for the whole of Lancashire and South Cumbria covering a population of 1.7 million.

The adult plastic surgery and burns ward has 22 beds and day case area. There are allocated day case beds for children on the paediatric unit. There is an established paediatric Unit within the trust. The speciality treats minor trauma injuries and plastic related issues within the plastic directorate. The plastic team will cover the emergency related matters as part of the on-call services for Lancashire and South Cumbria.
Central Lancashire is an attractive and historic area to live and has many local facilities. Major sporting venues are within reach. The cities of Manchester and Liverpool are within easy reach and the city of Preston itself is vibrant and developing. There are direct and rapid rail links from Preston to London and Glasgow. Recreational facilities are many and varied, with the Lake District, Ribble Valley, Yorkshire Dales, rural Fylde and the Fylde Coast nearby.
