Job Summary:
The postholder will work as a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist providing high-quality anaesthetic services across a range of surgical specialties. The role includes pre-operative assessment, anaesthesia delivery, and post-operative care. The consultant will also play a role in supervising junior medical staff and participating in departmental activities and clinical governance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide anaesthetic care for elective and emergency procedures across various specialties (e.g., general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics, etc.).
- Participate in on-call rota (if applicable).
- Conduct pre-operative assessment clinics and post-operative reviews.
- Support and supervise junior doctors and anaesthetic trainees.
- Work collaboratively with theatre teams, surgeons, and recovery staff to ensure patient safety and high standards of care.
- Contribute to audit, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Attend multidisciplinary meetings and departmental reviews as required.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with NHS standards.
Essential Requirements:
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
- Entry on the Specialist Register in Anaesthesia (or within 6 months of CCT).
- Right to work in the UK.
- Valid ALS certification (and preferably ATLS/EPALS depending on specialty area).
- Recent experience working as a Consultant Anaesthetist in the NHS or equivalent setting.
Desirable Skills:
- Subspecialty interest (e.g., obstetric anaesthesia, ICU, pain management).
- Experience in teaching and supervising junior staff.
- Familiarity with NHS systems such as EPIC, Cerner, or similar.
Additional Information:

- Mandatory training and occupational health clearance required prior to placement.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: £100.00-£120.00 per hour
