Description

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Team Leader to head our North American Construction Liability Broking division. This role is responsible for managing a small team of brokers, driving portfolio growth, and leading innovation in product development. The successful candidate will combine deep sector knowledge with proven leadership skills, market connectivity, and a proactive client-first approach.

The Role:

Line Management & Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of brokers and account handlers
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and professional development planning
  • Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture aligned with company values
  • Oversee resourcing, workload distribution, and succession planning across the team

Placement Management:

  • Negotiate and place complex liability insurance programs on behalf of clients
  • In coordination with US colleagues, prepare underwriting submissions for distribution to London insurers
  • Demonstrate good knowledge and understanding of London Market Reform Contracts including quote, binder, and policy review
  • Undertake renewal market presentations/negotiations and make appropriate recommendations
  • Effectively manage placement channels, facilities and markets for the specific client segment
  • Ensure transparency of agency and other commitments made to carriers and clients
  • Ensure compliant processing of contracts as per FCA and contract certainty requirements

New Product Development & Innovation

  • Identify market gaps and emerging liability exposures in the construction sector
  • Lead development of innovative solutions
  • Collaborate with underwriters and legal advisors to structure bespoke coverage
  • Champion pilot programs or product testing in collaboration with key clients and carriers

Portfolio Management & Growth

  • Drive revenue growth through acquisition of new clients and expansion of existing relationships
  • Monitor and manage team pipeline, renewal retention, and cross-selling opportunities
  • Support strategic tenders and placement of large/complex risks in the London and international markets
  • Track portfolio performance metrics, profitability, and market positioning

Client Service and Operations:

  • Understand our clients’ business and risk management needs and deliver tailored solutions through exceptional service
  • Develop strong relationships with clients and internal partners
  • Manage changes in client circumstances to ensure that the cover provided matches their needs
  • Where a client’s needs cross over into other WTW specialties, liaise internally to ensure that WTW maintains a consistent approach
  • Understand, apply and explain the business unit policies and procedures
  • Provide technical, industry, and subject matter expertise where required
  • Always operate within the business’s policies and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with clients, markets, and others to maximise service delivery level
  • Develop good knowledge of all internal WTW and industry systems maintaining and ensuring all internal metrics are met

Qualifications

The Requirements:

  • Proven experience in liability broking or underwriting, ideally with a focus on construction risks
  • Strong knowledge of the London insurance market and Lloyd’s placing environment
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams and/or mentoring junior professionals
  • Skilled at client relationship management and business development
  • Innovative mindset with the ability to identify and capitalize on market trends
  • A proactive, fast learner who can execute in a team environment
  • Detail oriented and able to manage competing timelines
  • Degree level education or comparable industry experience
  • Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Strong skills in problem solving, planning, and numeracy
