is Company description
Hope for the Community is a project based at Sharon Church, Osborne Road, Pontypool. The project exists as supplementary to, but separate from, the faith-work of the church. We are a community hub supporting our local community with a low-cost Grocery store and café serving food at subsidised cost. Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, we are looking to appoint a Community Engagement Assistant to help us grow a wider range of hub activities.
Job description
The role of the Community Engagement Assistant will be to assist in planning and delivering a range of new community outreach programmes over the next two years. We will pilot the following new initiatives within our existing community shop and activity space in an attempt to address this broad range of needs in our community.
Role Responsibilities
· The Community Engagement Assistant will assist our senior Community Engagement Worker to plan and deliver events and programmes to support our local community. It is an important part of this role to listen and engage with community service users and plan according to their needs.
· The events to be launched initially include: Family fun days Baby equipment swapping events to promote reuse and affordability. New parent skills sessions covering basic care and safe play. Healthy eating workshops for children using fun, interactive activities. Parent cookery classes using grocery items from our store. Group exercise sessions led by a qualified fitness trainer to encourage mental and physical well-being. Church garden allotment and gardening workshops, promoting sustainability, healthy food, and mental well-being. Other events and programmes may follow if these pilots are successful.
· The role will involve some setting up for and cleaning up after project activities. It may also occasionally involve collecting items for activities (such as food parcels) and so use of your own car would be an advantage.
· The Community Engagement Assistant will report directly to the project manager, who is the minister of the church.
