Salary: The starting salary is £38,926, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £38,523. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Communications Officer (Internal, Marketing and Campaigns)

As a communicator in the Met, you’ll be working alongside frontline officers in the heart of communities, blue lights and sirens, horses and dogs, firearms commands, forensics teams, hundreds of dedicated 999 call handlers and so many more amazing and dedicated individuals. We’d argue you won’t find a more interesting or exciting place to work – and to use your skills to make a real difference.
We are recruiting two new Communications Officers to work in our newly-formed Internal Communication, Marketing and Campaigns team. One of the roles will focus more on internal communication and the other will focus more on external campaigns, but both successful candidates will be expected to flex across to support other teams and will have experience working in a campaigning environment.
Our ideal candidates will have experience across a wide range of communication disciplines who is now ready to grow their career and develop their skills. They’ll need to be able to work in a fast-paced environment and appreciate the nature of our work – the Met is a 24/7 organisation and we have to deliver effective comms to suit.
We need strong writing skills, curiosity and eagerness to learn about the Met and its 40,000+ plus officers and staff, and the ability to take an amazing story and build creative comms around it. We’re looking for the right person as well as the right skills, so if you haven’t necessarily got a background in internal comms or marketing and you’ve spent most of your career in press – don’t discount yourself, your skills are hugely transferrable.

Key responsibilities for these roles include:
- Day to day development and delivery of internal and external campaigns to support the Met’s strategic priorities
- Writing clear, concise and compelling copy for internal communication articles and external campaign and marketing materials
- Using insight and research to better shape communications plans, products and evaluate outcomes
- Building relationships with police officers and staff, using your contacts to source content and providing content that meets their needs
- Represent communications in internal and external meetings, providing high quality communication and engagement advice across the breath of the communication spectrum.
- Managing department budgets, agency relationships and workflow

Essential for the role
- Experience across a range of communication disciplines including internal communications or marketing/campaigning.
- Exceptional written, verbal and storytelling skills.
- Confident dealing with and providing advice to stakeholders of various ranks/bands on a daily basis
- Experience developing creative communication packages using multiple platforms (including internal channels, social media and marketing)
- Proficient in tailoring content, reaching and driving positive engagement with target audiences, including hard to reach.
- Experience dealing with briefs, paid and non-paid campaigns and activity on time and to budget is preferred but not essential
- Experience supporting the planning and delivery of communications strategies and campaigns to a range of internal and external audiences.
- Be both curious and confident with data, ensuring recommendations are backed up with sound evidence.
- Be prepared to deal with unexpected issues which on occasion will require working beyond normal expected hours.
- Ability to multi-task, manage your communication projects and prioritise to ensure delivery.
- Ability to respond with resilience and initiative when priorities shift and adapt approach to changed requirements.
- A team player with experience in spotting risk and knowing when and how to escalate to senior colleagues.
