Overview
We are seeking an experienced Children and Families Worker to join our ministry team across the circuit (group of churches). The ideal candidate will be passionate about enabling children and families to participate fully in the life of the church and community, and will be responsible for the development of local community outreach, links with primary schools, and the pastoral care for children and families participating in activities.
This position requires a strong commitment to enhancing the well-being of families and fostering positive relationships within the church and community.
Purpose and Objectives:
· To enable children and families to participate fully in the life of the Circuit Churches and their Church Communities.
· To be responsible for the development of the work programme and local community outreach for children and families within the Circuit, in consultation with the Circuit Leadership team, and for the pastoral care of those participating in this work.
· To embrace principles and practices of participation in all strategic development of work with children and families.
Main Responsibilities:
1. To oversee and develop work with children and families in a consultative process within the Circuit and the local community.
2. To reach out and listen to families with primary school aged children in the local community to find out what their needs are and how they would like to engage with faith-centred activities.
3. To continue to build links and develop existing outreach in local schools, including leading assemblies, classroom sessions, extra-curricular activities and input around Christian festivals.
4. To develop Mosaic & Jigsaw (monthly all-age worship events) at CLS Methodist Church and inter-generational worship in other churches and to continue and develop the work of the Make Lunch project at CLS Methodist Church.
5. To equip and encourage our church communities to welcome families.
6. To develop, recruit and support volunteer teams working in local churches, and encourage cross-circuit work.
7. To be an advocate for families and children in the wider life of the Circuit churches, including attending leadership and decision-making meetings as required.
8. To work ecumenically where appropriate and in partnership with other local church colleagues.
9. To work with the Superintendent and the Circuit and District Safeguarding Officers to ensure compliance with the Churches’ Policy on Safeguarding and creating a safe space for all.
10. Attend Circuit and church meetings as required.
11. Produce written reports about the Children and Families work.
12. To undertake any other related duties, identified by the Circuit Leadership team as are within your capabilities and level of responsibility, in order to meet the needs of the Circuit.
Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Enhanced with Barred Lists (DBS) disclosure.
The post is part time working 20 hours per week.
