Full-Time Children's Residential Care Worker to join our residential children’s home in Thornton. Annual earnings from £30,060, depending on experience, (including sleep-in rate), £12.50 per hour, plus £60 sleep rate, with potential to earn more through over-time. Working pattern of 2 days on 4 days off. Experience not essential.
We are recruiting for a Residential Care Worker to join our residential children’s home in Thornton. The home is registered to accommodate 1 young person between aged 8 – 17 with emotional & behavioural difficulties (EBD). No two days are ever the same working in residential childcare. One day you can be taking the young person to school, tidying the house, and preparing dinner for when they return home; the next day you can be going to a trampoline park, or even taking the young person on holiday. There may also be occasions when you're dealing with a serious incident. Working in a children’s home can be a very varied role.
Residential childcare can also be a challenging role but it can be extremely rewarding. You will be supported by the Registered Manager to progress in your role, with fantastic training opportunities to help you progress your career.
Previous experience is not necessarily required, and all staff will receive full training and an induction, but you must be passionate about making a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people. For applicants who do not already hold a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare you will be enrolled within the first 6 months of beginning your role.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
● Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children in the home at all times.
● Provide outstanding levels of care for children living in the home.
● Work as part of a team to ensure children and young people are supported with their health, education, having fun and staying safe.
● Follow Coda Care’s policies and procedures at all times and to work within individual risk assessments.
● Supporting children and young people who have experienced trauma and whose behaviour may be challenging as a result of their childhood experiences.
● To maintain the confidentiality of children and young people in line with company policies and GDPR legislation.
● Understand how to meet each child’s individual needs.
● Raise concerns when worried about a child or young person, and ensure accurate recordings at all times.
● Act as a key worker for one child in the home, working alongside other key workers to ensure the child has everything they need and that accurate care plans are maintained.
● Completing daily paperwork in line with policies, procedures and legislation, and ensuring that other administrative tasks are completed to a high standard.
● Contribute to reports and meetings about children living in the home and work as part of a multi-agency team.
● If you do not already hold at least a Level 3 Diploma, a commitment to work towards completing this qualification in line with regulations.
Personal Qualities which are important for supporting children and young people in residential care:
● Patience – you will need to be patient and understand that sometimes progress is made in small steps.
● Passion to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable young people – you will need to be a caring person and form positive relationships with the children you will be caring for.
● Forgiveness - our children will need more than a second chance and may communicate complex and difficult thoughts and feelings through their behaviour.
● Positivity – we want the children in our home to be recognised for their achievements and successes, and they need carers who can see and highlight their positive qualities, as they may not see this in themselves.
● Self-reflection and honesty – sometimes adults make mistakes, and we want carers that will reflect on their own practice to improve the care they deliver. Our young people will respond to carers who are honest and genuine.
● Humour – knowing appropriate times to use humour can help young people reduce their stresses or anxieties.
● Resilience – carers need to be able to manage stressful incidents and behaviours as well as support young people who may have experienced significant abuse in their lives. You will be fully supported by the management team and Coda Care will support with staff counselling on a confidential basis.
Desirable:
● Previous experience in children’s residential care is desirable but not essential
Essential:
● Full UK Driving Licence
● Ability to work on a rota basis to meet the needs of the home (including overnights, weekends and bank holidays)
● Ability to work 48-hour shifts including sleep ins
● Commitment to safeguard vulnerable children
● Honesty and integrity
● IT and literacy skills to complete daily paperwork and update care plans
Pay:
From £12.50 per hour, £60 per sleep-in. Expected annual earnings including sleep-in duties = £30,600 with potential to work overtime. Bank Holidays paid at double time or time & a half. Working hours: Average of 160 hours per month on a rota basis, plus sleep-ins.

· 48 hour shift (including sleep-in)
· 10am start to 10.30am 48 hours later (including sleeps)
· 2 days on, 4 days off
· Bank holidays (time & a half or double time)
· Weekends
License/Certification:
· Full UK Driving licence
· Level 3 (not essential)
