The person behind the counter is as important as our choice of local supplier or direct trade coffee. Our barista’s need to be able to develop the skills and abilities to hand craft the most amazing coffee as well as engage with our customers on a level that no other coffee shop or cafe can.

A bit about you…
A great Barista will love coffee, and have a genuine passion for people, as well as the desire to learn and be the best they can be. No experience is required, just a can-do attitude. You’ll need bags of personality, the type where customers know you by name and you know theirs! You’ll need a natural passion for delivering excellence in everything you do with an ability to multi task throughout the day - there will be times where you’re juggling 3 or 4 things at once!
If you’re a natural at conversation, and you take care and pride in what you do, then you’ll fit in just fine! We’ll give you the skill to make a great coffee, so don’t worry about that!
We use amazing suppliers, so our barista’s need the knowledge and confidence to be able to talk through our products.
Good Baristas should possess:
- Great communication skills
- A happy, friendly personality
- Customer service skills and knowledge
- High level of attention-to-detail
- Good understanding of literacy and numeracy
- Enthusiasm to develop your skills and knowledge
- Adaptability to change and willingness to embrace new ideas and processes
- Ability to work unsupervised and deliver quality work

- Team player qualities
- Confidence in dealing with ‘crisis’ moments and staying calm
You’ll be responsible for the health, safety and cleanliness of the shop whilst on duty, along with an array of other responsibilities and tasks you’ll be trained to undertake.
A bit about the responsibilities…
A Barista takes on a range of roles including the list below, this is not exhaustive and you may be required, either upon reasonable request, or using your own initiative, to undertake more tasks and responsibilities than listed in order to fulfil your role and meet business needs:
- Preparing and serving hand crafted hot and cold drinks such as coffee, tea, artisan and speciality beverages.
- Cleaning and sanitising work areas, utensils and equipment
- Cleaning service and outside areas, including seating if appropriate and litter picks if necessary
- Ensuring the product displays and merchandising meet brand standards
- Describing menu items and suggesting products to customers, including upselling and product partners (what product goes well with another)
- Serving customers and taking orders
- Ordering, receiving and distributing stock supplies
- Receiving and processing customer payments
- Undertaking and completing Food Safety and Health and Safety tasks and paperwork
But most importantly, you’ll have fun working and supporting your community to feel the same!
