Main purpose of the job:
The Newton Dee Bakery produces bread, buns and a range of pies and pastries for the village as well as the Camphill communities in the area and the Bakery Shop; The Bakery assistant will be working with Villagers and Day Placements who have additional support needs and learning disabilities and work in the Bakery. They will assist the team in all daily production tasks. They will carry out all Bakery tasks and responsibilities as detailed below under the guidance of the Workshop Coordinators, and be able to show initiative and leadership when appropriate. They will be part of a team of international volunteers, villagers and day placements and support the day to day running of the workshop. They will be able to work without the supervision of the workshop co-coordinators on occasion. They will be able to cover when the workshop co-coordinators are away. They will uphold the values and ethos of a therapeutic work environment within the context of Newton Dee Camphill Community ltd.
Summary of Role: the Bakery assistant will….
Ø Work as a member of the Bakery Team supporting and engaging in shared roles and responsibilities.
Ø Take an active interest in the needs of the villagers in the Bakery and work accordingly under the guidance of the Bakery Co-ordinators.
Ø Make an active contribution to a healthy, therapeutic and constructive working environment in the Bakery.
Ø Aspire at all times to hold an overview of the people and processes involved in the smooth running of the Bakery.
Ø Be aware at all times of Newton Dee policies, paying particular attention to Adult Protection policies and Health and safety policies and procedures.
Ø Represent and stand for Newton Dee Village Ethos and Values, to Villagers, Work Placements, Team members, the Village as a whole and the general public who come in to Newton Dee.
Specific Responsibilities: the Bakery Assistant will……
Ø Take and carry out specific instructions from the Bakery Co-ordinator and relay these to others as appropriate.
Ø Carry out any and all specific delegated responsibilities from the Bakery Co-ordinator with regard to the operational needs of the Bakery.
Ø Assist in the management of the Bakery accounts.
Ø Assist in the ordering of Bakery supplies.
Ø Take a shared responsibility for all domestic/cleaning tasks in the Bakery.
Ø Assist in the management of the till and customer service.
Ø Manage daily/weekly/quarterly cleaning operations in the Bakery so that hygiene is maintained to the highest standards.
Ø Write reports as requested and if requested attend any reviews for villagers working in the Bakery.
