Part time

Do you have a nuance for neuroscience and teaching? Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to teach in 2025.

The School of Psychological Sciences is looking to recruit a part time Associate Lecturer to teach on the module:

  • Neuroscience, level 5
  • 10 teaching sessions of 3 hrs each
  • Thursday afternoons 2-5pm and evenings 6-9pm, Autumn Term

Your role will involve delivering teaching to Birkbeck students. Specifically, you will be responsible for the teaching, administration, and assessment marking of the Neuroscience module, a Level 5 module that is a compulsory component of our BPS-accredited BSc Psychology programme.

This module introduces key concepts and research techniques in neuroscience relevant to psychology. It explores how brain structure and function underlie behaviour, cognition, and emotion, using a range of contemporary research and real-world examples.

Topics include neuroanatomy, brain plasticity, sensory integration, sleep, addiction, genetics, and the neural basis of mental health conditions. This module is designed to provide psychology students with a strong foundational understanding of neuroscience, linking biological mechanisms to psychological functions and mental health.

As an Associate Lecturer, you will work closely with the main module convener to organise, deliver, and assess the module. Comprehensive materials for all lectures will be provided.

In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack below, candidates must possess:

  • A first degree in Psychology or an equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in neuroscience, including models and methods.
  • An understanding of the diverse needs of students, including full-time UCAS students and part-time adult learners, with the ability to engage and inspire them.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, capable of conveying both simple and complex academic concepts.

If this sounds like the role for you, we invite you to apply for this position at Birkbeck, University of London, today.

Remuneration:

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £68.13 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked.
