South Wales Police is pleased to invite applications for the post of Assistant Chief Constable.

- ACC – Specialist Crime
If successful you will be joining the busiest force in Wales and one of the best performing forces in the UK. Covering 10% of the Welsh landmass, the force is home to 42% of the population of Wales (1.3 million residents) and manages around 40% of the total crime in Wales. The force spans a wide geographical area made up of urban, rural and coastal areas and featuring the two largest cities in Wales – Swansea and the capital city, Cardiff.
The force area and its three BCUs span the seven unitary authority boundaries of Bridgend, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath Port Talbot, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea and the Vale of Glamorgan, with our headquarters situated in Bridgend. The diverse region includes some of the most deprived communities in Wales. Unlike its most similar forces, South Wales Police has a very significant major events profile, more in keeping with metropolitan forces. Each year, the Force polices approximately 600 events, which require varying levels of police intervention in terms of planning and resources These include policing Premier League, Championship, and international football, international cricket, regional and international rugby, not to mention concerts by world-famous artists and a host of other music events

With the engagement of over 3500 police officers, 388 PCSOs, nearly 2500 police staff and a team of dedicated volunteers that includes 95 Special Constables, the force has made great strides in delivering its vision – “To be an outstanding police service, accessible, reliable and trusted by our communities.”
Applicants must have successfully completed the Senior Police National Assessment Centre (PNAC) and the Strategic Command Course (SCC) or successfully completed, or are about to compete, the Police Leadership Programme (Stage 5 – Executive Leaders Programme. Non United Kingdom applicants must have served in an approved overseas police force rank. Applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
The annual salary is £120,489.00 and a car is provided for duty use (and private use subject to private running costs and tax being met by the post holder). The successful candidate will be expected to reside within the force area, appropriate relocation assistance can be considered in accordance with Police Regulations.
Applicants should already hold MV/SC clearance and there is a requirement to be vetted to DV level on appointment. The required employment checks will be carried out prior to appointment.
South Wales Police is committed to being part of the Welsh Language Commissioner’s goal of one million Welsh speakers in Wales by 2050 and our staff are supported and encouraged to improve their Welsh language abilities by either having at least a Level 2 standard to communicate at a basic level in the Welsh language or achieve it within 2 years of taking up the post. Support and assistance will be provided by the force to help the successful candidate achieve this standard.
