We are looking to appoint either one full-time, or two part-time Supervisors to help run our busy Amusement Arcades in Matlock Bath. Whilst not a technical role as such, part of the role will to be involved in the basic repair, upkeep and maintenance of our arcade machines, so experience of repairing electronic or electrical machinery would be a distinct advantage (although not essential). Mature candidates are most welcome, although please note that as a gambling business, we are unable to employ anyone under the age of 18.
The Hours
There will typically be between 36 - 42 hours available per week, which one full-time person could work, or this could be split between two part-timers. More hours will usually be available during periods of staff and school holidays. We are looking for an honest and dependable person (or people) capable of working within a small team, who are flexible enough to work a variety of shifts of between 6hr and 12hrs, including day shifts, evenings and weekends until 10pm (and sometimes a little later). Shifts can vary each week, and can be a mixture of 10am-4pm, 4-10pm+, 10am-10pm+ or 10am until 5/6pm+ including at the weekend. Please note that evenings and weekends are an important part of what we do, and we are unable to progress applications looking for ‘Monday to Friday’ or ‘Daytime’ work only.
PLEASE NOTE: We are looking for a person or people who will be available throughout the typical school holiday periods, which are our peak trading weeks. We will be unable to progress applicants who have holidays at these times.
The Role
This is a ‘hands on’ position, where the successful candidate will be on their feet for the majority of their shift. The Supervisor works with one or two others, and organises the shift and themselves to ensure that the business is kept clean and tidy, our machines are well stocked, and customer problems are dealt with efficiently. The Supervisor will be responsible for a float of money, and will be involved with the basic repair and upkeep of our machines. Occasionally some shifts may be in one of our cash desks, and shifts can be at either of our businesses in Matlock Bath. If you have key-holder / supervisory experience in other businesses such as shops or pubs then this may be similar. As amusement / gaming machines are a fundamental part of our business, part of the role is dealing with basic problems as they arise, and in time you will learn how to tackle more complex repairs. Any experience of dealing with electrical and/or electronic equipment would therefore be a distinct advantage, and we would especially welcome applications from more mature candidates who may have these skills. We can be extremely busy during peak periods and need personable people who are happy to be on their feet & 'roll their sleeves up' to get the job done as part of a small team. Please note that there is a requirement to do occasional ‘heavy lifting’ in our businesses, whether taking in a delivery, filling our change machines with bulk coin, or moving our machines around the site, so may not be suitable for some.
About us
We are a family owned business who have operated two amusement arcades and an aquarium attraction in Matlock Bath for more than 50 years. It is important that candidates can get to & from Matlock Bath in line with our opening & closing hours (10am-10:30pm) so please consider how you might get to and from the village in line with these shift times before you apply. Please note that we will only consider applications from candidates who we consider to live within reasonable commuting distance of Matlock Bath. For those living further afield and outside of the immediate Matlock area, it would be advantageous to have your own transport.
