Looking for a new role that’s busy, varied and interesting? Do you have strong attention to detail and concentration skills even when working under pressure? Are you an excellent communicator with a clear voice and good listening skills? Then a career as an Air Traffic Services Operational Assistant (ATSOA) could be for you!
As well as the skills mentioned above, you’ll need to be:
- Competent in the use of computers as you’ll be using a variety of programmes including a Flight Management System.
- Able to organise and prioritise tasks on your own initiative.
- Flexible about your working hours as you’ll be working shifts and on-call duties.
- You should also hold a full and current driving license to enable you to respond to out of hours call outs when on duty.
You’ll assist our team of Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs) in maintaining a safe and orderly flow of aircraft both in the air and on the ground. Your tasks will be varied and include processing flight data, carrying out meteorological observations, preparing flight strips, keeping documents up to date, checking equipment, dealing with enquiries and passing on messages, as well as general administrative tasks. In addition, you will act alone as an Aerodrome Flight Information Services Officer (AFISO) in the control tower on an on-call basis outside normal airport opening hours in support of the emergency services. When on-call you need to be no further than 25 miles from the airport and be able to reach the airport within 30 minutes.
We will provide the specialist training you will need to carry out the role of ATSA, AFISO and Met Observer, collectively referred to as ATSOA. Training will be provided at the Global ATS College in Gloucester, at the Met Service Training Centre in Aberdeen and at the airport.
You’ll be a key player within a small team working hard to ensure the airport provides a top-quality service to our many customers – no matter what the weather or time of day! This can be a high-pressure environment where safety is crucial and a positive, helpful and flexible attitude is essential.
In return for your professionalism and commitment we offer a basic salary salary plus 12.5% shift allowance, a consolidated weekend premium payment, a Met Observer allowance, an AFISO allowance, an on-call payment, company pension, employee assistance programme and 28.5 days annual leave entitlement, rising to 33.5 days after 5 years’ employment.
