Support for Learning Teaching Assistant 1:1
To commence September 2025
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our Support for Learning Department. The Teaching Assistant will work closely with classroom teachers to provide support in delivering highly effective and personalised instruction to a student with an EHCP who is entering the Sixth form at Wrekin College in September 2025. This role requires patience, excellent communication skills and a passion for assisting in the learning and development of a young person. The appointee will be line-managed by the Head of the Learning Support Department.
The main duties and responsibilities of this role include:
- Promoting the safeguarding and welfare of the young people with whom you are working and come into contact.
- Facilitating the educational and social development of the young people you work with, under the direction of the College’s SENDCo.
- Working closely with other professionals to help to deliver the curriculum 1:1, both within the classroom and in separate teaching spaces.
- Working with subject teachers and the SENDCo to help support the student to complete successfully their classwork and prep, monitoring progress and recording key areas where development is required.
- Contributing towards pupils’ Individual Learning Plans, and aims stated in the EHCP.
- Promoting independence in learning and helping the student to develop strategies that enable them to become more self-reliant in their studies.
- Helping to differentiate tasks set in class in order to render them more accessible to the student you are supporting.
- Clarifying and reinforcing class teachers’ instructions and questions.
- Supporting classroom teachers by helping to keep the student on task and to encourage their participation in lessons.
- Provide support during pupil's break and lunch times.
- Referring any concerns to either the SENDCo or Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Attending the regular Support for Learning Department meetings.Participating in INSET opportunities and CPD as directed by the SENDCo.
The hours of work for this post will be between 9.30 am and 4pm, Monday to Thursday and 9.30am to 4.30pm on a Friday, during term-time only (33 weeks).
