About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, motivated and highly organised Senior Support Worker to join our dedicated Young Carers Service team. Our team of support workers focus on supporting young carers throughout their caring journey, ensuring they feel understood, valued and empowered whilst also providing the opportunities and practical support the young people need to thrive and continue their caring role.
As a Senior Support Worker, you will manage your own caseload while also acting as the first point of contact for the team. You will coordinate daily activities and offer hands-on support, guidance and problem-solving so that the team can provide a consistently high-quality service and meet the needs of the young carers and young adult carers we support.
Your role will be a mixture of working in the community, from home and in our Aylesbury office.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Delivery
- Coordinate daily operations, including managing referrals, monitoring team caseloads and ensuring the smooth delivery of clubs and activities.
- Shape and adapt group programmes in response to the needs of young carers, working within available resources.
- Ensure all support provided is timely, high quality and recorded consistently using internal systems.
- Adhere to activity budgets as delegated by the Service Manager, approving team expenses and invoices in line with organisational procedures.
- Undertake any other duties within the remit of the post, as required by the Young Carers Service Manager.
Team Support & Supervision
- Plan, organise and lead regular team meetings to support communication, collaboration and service delivery.
- Provide regular supervision and ongoing coaching to team members to maintain best practice.
- Fulfil the role of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, receiving, responding to and recording safeguarding concerns and ensuring relevant information is escalated to the DSL (Service Manager) in a timely manner.
- Ensuring robust safeguarding practices are embedded within the service.
Young Carer Support
- Manage a personal caseload, including undertaking assessments, setting clear outcomes, and attending clubs, meetings, and activities.
- Provide support for youth activities — particularly in the south of the county on Thursday evenings until 7pm (usually two per month). TOIL will be provided for out-of-hours working.
About you
Skills and Experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Experience providing guidance, supervision or mentoring within a team environment
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- IT-literate, with experience using client databases or CRM systems
Knowledge and Understanding
- Practical knowledge of safeguarding principles and practice. The ability to work within organisational policies, implementing effective safeguarding practices to protect individuals and uphold safety standards
- A clear understanding of young people’s development and the potential challenges faced by young carers and young adult carers
- Familiarity with the services, community needs and voluntary sector landscape in Buckinghamshire.
Skills and Experience
- Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle (travel across Bucks required)
- Willingness to work flexibly including evenings and weekends when needed.
