AJN Steelstock is a leading player in the steel distribution industry, committed to delivering high-quality products and exceptional service. We are seeking a Yard Assistant to join our team to assist with the site housekeeping and facilities management and carry out routine inspections.
Hours
13:00 - 17:00/Monday to Friday/20 hours per week
Responsibilities
- Keeping the yard clean and tidy, picking up and handling banding, timbers etc
- Keeping the sheds clean and tidy
- Keeping welfare facilities clean, tidy and sufficiently stocked with janitorial products
- Sweeping under racks and around site
- Carrying out waste segregation and emptying of skips and bins
- Cleaning of Armco barriers
- Putting gas bottles in the correct storage location
- Carrying out litter picking
- Gardening, trimming hedges, getting rid of weeds
- Painting posts, Armco barriers and other site facilities when required
- Using a forklift, Combilift and sweeper to fulfil job requirements
- Replenishing cleaning stations
- Off-loading and distributing small parcels, shot and paint deliveries
- Gritting and clearing snow from the yard in poor weather conditions
- Carrying out routine inspections i.e. emergency lights, fire extinguishers etc.
- Carrying out any other ad hoc duties to maintain the site housekeeping, facilities management and the smooth running of the site
- Attending all training courses as and when required
- Following all safe systems of work at all times. Identifying and reporting any shortcomings that become apparent whilst undertaking tasks or if the tasks change or new activities are undertaken. Liaising with the HS&E department to ensure such risks are assessed and procedures amended as necessary
- Actively engaging in the identification of risks within the workplace and the subsequent assessment development of suitable safe systems of work. When necessary, intervening to prevent breaches of health and safety and/or report as necessary
- Following the requirements of the Company Quality Management Systems, policies and procedures to help achieve a quality product for the customer and reduce the non-conformances
- Following the requirements of the Company Environmental Management System to assist the Company’s objective to reduce the detrimental effect on the environment by way of waste management and any other areas to improve the environmental impact
