Upcycling and Recycling Woodworker

Salary: £22.986.00 per annum

Growing Space are seeking a skilled and environmentally conscious wood crafter to create items that can support the local environment using sustainable wood products by recycling timber saved from landfill. As an eco-friendly wood crafter, you'll design and craft unique pieces that showcase your creativity, teach vulnerable adult's new skills linked to our bespoke qualification suite as part of their personal development, while minimising environmental impact and monitoring carbon saving through the use of recycled materials. You'll work with locally sourced, reclaimed wood to create pieces that appeal to customers who value eco-friendly hand made products with the aim of generating funds for the charity, supporting the environment and our participants.
The project will be delivered in partnership with other third sector organisations and statutory agencies and will be part of the Trailblazer initiative led by BGCBC.
*Key Responsibilities:
- Design and craft wood products, such as planters, bat, bird and bug boxes and bespoke decorative items for sale in our shops, using eco-friendly materials and practices.
- Source materials from local suppliers and reclaimed wood sources by contacting local businesses that would otherwise be putting perfectly good timber into landfill.
- Develop and implement sustainable woodworking practices to minimize waste and reduce environmental impact.
- Collaborate with partners, customers, or other stakeholders to create custom pieces that meet their needs and expectations and raise funds for the project.
- Maintain a clean SAFE and organised workspace, adhering to safety standards and best practices.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new techniques, and sustainable materials.
- To gather information and enter data on to our Lamplight database for our funders.
*Requirements:
- Experience in woodworking, carpentry, or a related field. E
- Knowledge of sustainable woodworking practices and eco-friendly materials. E
- Proficiency in various woodworking techniques, such as hand tool skills, machine operation, and wood finishing. E
- Strong attention to detail, creativity, and problem-solving skills. E
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. E
- Physical stamina to work in a workshop environment, lifting and moving materials as needed. E
Able to use a CNC machine D
Good standard of IT skills E
*Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in woodworking, carpentry, or a related field.
- Experience with sustainable design principles and eco-friendly materials.
- Knowledge of local sourcing and reclaimed wood options.
- Familiarity with woodworking software or design tools.
