Job Advert

The Grange Centre has an exciting opportunity for a new Trustee to join its Board.

Becoming a Trustee is an enriching and fulfilling experience, giving you the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people and support a cause you feel passionately about.

No prior experience as a trustee is necessary, we would be interested to hear from applicants with broad experience who are ideally local to Surrey and understand the area we operate in.

We would also welcome applications from people who have particular areas of expertise or knowledge of any of the following: Charities, Social Care, Local Authorities, Property or Housing Associations.

As a member of our Board you will draw on your experience and help to support and shape The Grange’s work and strategic direction.

Applicants from diverse backgrounds, including different ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds are welcomed.

About The Grange Centre

The Grange Centre provides vital services supporting people with learning disabilities to lead independent and fulfilling lives. We are unique in Surrey as we offer accommodation, care support and a wide range of skills training and activities all on one beautiful 8 acre site in Bookham. We also provide a small amount of supported living accommodation in Bookham village, Leatherhead, Fetcham and Epsom. Our services are most suited for people with mild to moderate disabilities.

We are a regulated care provider, a charity and a housing association and we provide three services - residential care for those with higher care needs, supported living for people working towards independence and skills and activities - a wide range of training, work experience and mini businesses.

Role Profile

We believe that the most effective Boards are ones which have diverse voices around the table, including lived experiences, as diversity fosters innovation.

As a Trustee at The Grange Centre you will be actively involved in the strategic direction, governance and decision making of the charity. You will join a dynamic team that is committed to supporting people with disabilities to lead independent and fulfilling lives. You will be helping us to lead the way as provider of choice for people with disabilities, inspiring our local and wider communities. We have an experienced Chair who encourages a supportive environment in what will be a rewarding and satisfying role that also enables personal development and growth.

New Trustees are fully supported through their induction into the organisation and will be expected to attend a minimum of four board meetings per year, an annual Away Day and subcommittee meetings. Trustees will be offered reimbursement for any expenses.

We are looking for Trustees who have:

  • a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a trustee
  • strategic vision
  • good, independent judgement
  • an ability to think creatively
  • a willingness to speak their mind and challenge constructively
  • the ability to work effectively as a member of a team
