Teaching Assistant for Children and Young People with a Hearing Impairment

Salary: £27,711 - £30,060 (full time full year equivalent)
Actual Salary: £21,011 - £22,792 per annum (Grade 4)
Hours: 32.5 per week term time only (plus 5 days pro-rated)
Based: Flexible worker

Role Overview:
Working across Educational settings in including the Early Years sector to support the inclusion of children with a hearing impairment and contribute to excellent outcomes and aspirations.
To work under the guidance of the Advisory Teacher for Hearing Impairment within an agreed system of supervision, to provide effective support, prepare accessible curriculum materials and implement agreed personalised work programmes with individuals with hearing impairment in different schools and settings as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- To work with identified pupils to help promote inclusion and to overcome barriers to learning as a result of their hearing impairment.
- To work collaboratively with service staff, school staff, families, pupils and other professionals under the direction of the Qualified Teachers of the Deaf
- To supervise, assist and support pupils to access learning activities, through your knowledge of the curriculum and knowledge of how pupils who have a hearing impairment learn.
Key Requirements:
To succeed in this role, you will need as a minimum:
- Excellent communication skills with which to build and maintain effective relationships with all CYP, staff and families.
- Sound knowledge, skills, and direct experience of working with CYP with a hearing impairment. Experience within Early Years would be beneficial.
- A good standard of literacy with the ability to contribute to reports.
- Minimum qualification in BSL Stage 1 (or equivalent) and BSL stage 2 or willingness to attain.
- The use of a car is necessary to work in settings throughout the borough.
