ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Purpose of the job: To support students (in groups or one-to-one) to gain vocational skills in one or more practical trades (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, construction, mechanic’s etc) meeting the individual learning needs of the students.
Role: Support the operational team in the delivery of sessions. Lead sessions where appropriate ensuring correct staff ratios for all groups during the day.
Oarsome Chance work in the Gosport and Portsmouth area of Hampshire and we are searching for a skilled professional with Multi Trade background. The ideal person for this role would need to be passionate, resilient, and able to work in an inclusive manner, to meet the needs of the pupils. The charity is looking for candidates with a range of trade backgrounds i.e. carpentry, construction, mechanics and/or an experienced D&T teacher, who can bring enthusiasm and creative, hands-on ideas to their sessions. Sessions would include the delivery of accredited outcomes in line with qualification assessment criteria.
The successful candidate will pass on skills that can be used in a future career and get the pupils excited about learning a practical trade in line with the ethos of Oarsome Chance.
The board of Trustees are passionate about the project and providing the best learning for the students. There are a variety of needs at Oarsome Chance. We are focused on personalising the students learning so they are interested in a range of areas.
Skill Requirement:
● Suitable qualification and experience in a practical trade/s
● Someone who is resilient and can work with challenging behaviours
● Can work in a therapeutic and inclusive manner
● Can be creative and adaptable with their teaching
● Willing to build strong relationships with pupils
● To be familiar with, and work within, OC policies and procedures, and risk assessments.
● To demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding.

● To communicate professionally with colleagues in relation to matters related to service users, transport and unit organisation.
● To participate in team meetings, training, supervision and performance development.
● To undertake any other responsibilities and duties appropriate to the nature and salary for the post.
● To help OC students to achieve safe and constructive engagement.
● To promote a student-centred approach.
● To maintain, service and repair of all aspects of OC workshop, machines, tools, and associated equipment.
● To keep the workshop area in a safe, orderly and in presentable state.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

● Annual safeguarding for school staff KCSIE 2024
● Conflict de-escalation in a school setting.
● Safeguarding and protecting children L3
● First aid training.
● Willing to undertake further training

● Basic IT skills and record keeping (Microsoft).
● Enhanced DBS check
● H&S / Fire safety training
