The Opportunity

A fantastic opportunity to support disabled students to participate fully and succeed in their chosen courses of study. Your key role will be to provide specialist study skills support, advice and guidance to students with mental health conditions that impact their studies.

Your skills and attributes for success

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual with relevant experience in the delivery of mental health support services within a one-to one and groupwork setting.

  • Educated to degree level in a professional relevant subject (e.g., Health, Social Work, Counselling)
  • Must hold the requisite qualifications and professional body membership for Specialist Mentors - Mental Health Difficulties (MH). (See pages 8-10 of the DfE qualification and professional body membership requirements )
  • Substantial knowledge of issues affecting students with mental health conditions undertaking studies in higher education.
  • Working knowledge of equality legislation and good practice including GDPR
  • IT literate
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
  • Organisational skills: ability to manage priorities, workload and deliver case notes and funding body paperwork timeously.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional within a busy environment, when dealing with students presenting with various challenging and difficult situations

Working days and hours

The position is open to candidates who are looking for part-time employment of 2.5 days (17.5 hours) per week which is the equivalent of 0.5FTE (Full Time Equivalent).

We are looking to meet candidates available for work from 9am to 5pm, working 2 days on campus, one of them being a Friday. Currently, the half day can be worked at home but it may be that in the future, student demand requires you to work 100% on campus.

  • The Service is engaged in hybrid working with most team members working a balance of campus and remote working. Due to the nature of this role, it cannot be entirely fulfilled by remote working.
