Coarse is a modern British tasting menu restaurant in the heart of Durham. We’re looking for an experienced Sommelier with strong all-round hospitality skills.
This is much more than a traditional sommelier job – yes, we want someone who knows and loves wine, but we also need a capable, confident front-of-house leader who can manage the team and take initiative when we’re not around.
The role includes:
- Leading service and setting the tone for warm, professional hospitality
- Managing and developing our wine list and drinks pairings
- Supporting and guiding the FOH team – from training to daily briefings
- Acting as a second-in-command, stepping up and maintaining standards when we're not there

We’re looking for someone who:
- Has 5+ years of hospitality experience, with time in quality restaurants
- Brings confident wine knowledge (WSET Level 2 or equivalent ideal)
- Has proven leadership experience and thrives under pressure
- Is proactive, kind, and gets the job done without fuss
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £13.00-£15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
