Holmes Chapel Zoo is home to over 100 animals and 40 species and growing rapidly. We are an outstanding, immersive zoo, with a welcoming family atmosphere. We engage, educate and inspire all generations to conserve our world.
HCZ, a cornerstone of wildlife conservation in Holmes Chapel, works in tandem with Zoo2U, our outreach animal education company. Together, we strive for biodiversity and community engagement in wildlife conservation.
Role Overview:
Are you passionate about animals, nature, and making a difference? Holmes Chapel Zoo is looking for a creative and committed Social Media and Marketing Volunteer to support our small team in promoting the zoo, increasing visitor numbers, and engaging our online and local community.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in digital marketing, content creation, event promotion and public engagement – all while helping a growing, community-focused zoo with a mission in conservation and education.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Creation & Storytelling
- Help create engaging, high-quality content across all social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, YouTube, etc.).
- Capture and edit short videos on-site, showcasing animals, events and behind-the-scenes footage.
- Write compelling captions, blog posts to promote zoo events, updates, and educational stories.
- Monitor social media messages and comments and flag where responses are needed.
- Share success stories with schools, care homes and charities to highlight HCZ and Zoo2U outreach programme
Email Marketing & Newsletters
- Help prepare email newsletters and updates for our mailing list (via Mailchimp or similar).
- Support with database management and simple reporting.
Event Promotion & Support
- Contribute creative ideas for events, campaigns, or seasonal promotions to attract more visitors.
- Support in the planning and delivery of fun, family-friendly events (e.g. animal awareness days, holiday trails, themed weekends).
- Assist with setting up event spaces, creating content during the event, and engaging with visitors.
- Help evaluate the success of events and campaigns.
Useful Skills:
- Competent in using Social Media
- Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, Final Cut, or similar).
- Experience using graphic design tools such as Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or Photoshop.
- Familiarity with email platforms such as Mailchimp
- Knowledge of AI video creation desirable

- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, both remotely and onsite as needed.
