Responsible for safely and compliantly selecting and processing waste from designated storage areas to meet disposal site requirements and transport standards. Tasks include checking, sorting, segregating, re-packing, bulking, palletising, and preparing waste and containers, ensuring they are ready on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-use forklift truck (FLT) inspections and report faults to management.
- Perform PUWER safety checks on tools and equipment, recording results appropriately.
- Operate counterbalance FLT safely in line with company P.A.S.S policy.
- Use DSEAR-related provisions safely and correctly as per site assessment.
- Control vehicle movements on site (if trained as a banksman).
- Check TFS-routed waste for compliance with specifications, seeking confirmation from a competent person if needed.
- Sort and segregate waste to remove unsuitable items or divert to more cost-effective disposal routes.
- Repack materials into suitable containers for overseas transport.
- Bulk waste under the direction of a technically competent person.
- Palletise and prepare containers to meet company transport standards and overseas requirements.
- Complete batch sheets/lists to maintain waste traceability.
- Prepare outgoing loads efficiently, placing correct pallets in OGLA according to schedule and weight limits.
- Load outgoing TFS vehicles safely.
- Carry out general housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, litter picking, and drum crushing.
- Support a health and safety culture by reporting at least one near miss per month and addressing hazards promptly.
- Assist other teams as needed.
- Undertake additional duties as reasonably required by the business.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid FLT (Forklift Truck) licence.
- Experience in the hazardous waste sector (ideal but not essential).
- Warehousing experience (ideal but not essential).
- Willingness to work outdoors in a hazardous chemical environment with a manual/hands-on approach.
- Ability to read and understand written safety instructions, including chemical labelling.
