We are looking for a friendly, organised, and customer-oriented Shop Assistant to join our deli/news team. As a Shop Assistant, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining the deli section, and ensuring that the products are fresh and attractively presented. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the shop, helping customers with their orders, and supporting the team with daily tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Service: Provide friendly and knowledgeable assistance to customers, answering questions about deli products, making recommendations, and processing transactions efficiently.
- Product Handling: Assist with the preparation, slicing, and packaging of deli meats, and other specialty items. Ensure all products are stored and displayed according to health and safety regulations.
- Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels, rotate products to ensure freshness, and inform the manager of items that need to be reordered or replenished.
- Sales: Upsell and promote special offers or new products to customers. Ensure that all customers have a positive shopping experience to encourage repeat business.
- Cleaning and Hygiene: Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the deli section, including cleaning surfaces, equipment, and ensuring the area is stocked and visually appealing.
- Team Support: Work closely with other team members to ensure tasks are completed efficiently. Assist with opening and closing procedures as required.
- Cash Handling: Process customer payments accurately using the cash register and handle cash, credit/debit cards.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in customer service, ideally in a deli, butcher, preparing food and taking orders.
- Excellent communication skills and a friendly, approachable manner.
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for food.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic math skills for handling transactions and weights of deli products.
- Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices (training will be provided).
- Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays.
- You will require your health and hygiene certificate level 2
Shifts will be 6am-3pm comprising 24.5 hours over 3 days Mon Fri and Sat.
Closed on Sundays
