MSA Safety Yate Service Center is now hiring for a Service Centre Sewing Machinist. Sewing Machinist will be responsible to perform the following tasks:
- Sewing and repairing fire garments, rescue garments and hoods back to standard condition ensuring they are fit for purpose.
- Utilizing a variety of sewing machines to perform daily tasks.
- Confidently unpick, repair, and double check your work ensuring highest quality repairs are completed to make the garment fit for purpose.
- Use the correct fabric and trims specified for the garment repair.
- Inspection to find/spot any other repairs to the garment are needed and escalate to the supervisor.
- Utilizing style, measurement books provided as reference guide when making repairs to ensure proper procedures are followed. If unsure, escalate to your supervisor.
- Sign off the repair ticket with your name once the repair is completed.
- Strong attention to detail is a must.
- Complete and accurately update job tickets and necessary paperwork.
- Ability to work under pressure and understand order of priority along with ensuring a 7-day turnaround is met. If unable to meet turnaround deadline, escalate issues/concerns to your supervisor.
- Strong communications skills to work with your team.
- Acting as a role model.
- Take part in weekly housekeeping check/tidy up and cleaning exercise in your work area.
- Ensure sewing machines are in good working order and report any faulty equipment to your supervisor.
- Dispose of "sharps" correctly and to MSA guidelines.
- Complete "Near Hits" for all unsafe acts, resolving if you can and escalating to your supervisor if needed.
- This role will may also be crossed trained in others areas such as batch, inspection, wash, picking, warehouse, etc.
Requirements:

- Ability to make good judgement and meet deadlines.
- Communicate effectively and work as a team.

- Work in somewhat hot/cold environment.

- Ability to wear required PPE - safety glasses and/or gloves if needed.
