An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Nottingham Neonatal Service . Applications are invited for 4 WTE post as Senior Neonatal Fellow, for a period of 12 months. Successful applicants will have an exciting experience working as a middle grade neonatal doctor in Nottingham Neonatal

These posts will help with safe transition of the recently expanded Neonatal intensive care unit at Queens Medical Centre, which happened in 2024.

This experience should leave candidates well placed for a successful application to join a national training scheme in Paediatrics, or to prepare for GRID applications in Neonatology during a break from Paediatric training, or for candidates wishing to have senior neonatal experience before taking a consultant post. It would also provide the opportunity to revise and enhance neonatal skills post-CCT in preparation for Consultant posts.

This post is based in the neonatal service of Nottingham University Hospitals and will involve working on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at either City campus or Queens medical centre campus, as we provided cover over both sites.

Nottingham is the lead neonatal centre for the north of the East Midlands Operational Delivery Network (EM-ODN) with two neonatal units providing tertiary neonatal care.

To understand the role in more detail, please read the attached job description and person specification documents.

All activities between the two units are organised on a “whole service” basis including junior doctors’ training, neonatal grand rounds, the Nottingham Neonatal Transport Service, clinical policy and guidelines, audit, clinical research and clinical governance. The Passport to Health Scheme for determining outcomes at follow up and combined Annual Report demonstrate that the service views itself as a whole. Our charitable Trust apportions donations equally across the two sites.

Nottingham Neonatal Service enjoys a high reputation amongst neonatal nurses. We have recently completed a review of the whole nursing structure, with an emphasis on the development of competency-based practice.
