DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To demonstrate a sound work ethics, co-ordinate care and allocation of daily skill mix of staff and resident needs, have a sound knowledge of the homes fire procedure, taking the role of fire marshal on each shift
To organise the shifts ensuring time and resources are used in such a way that benefits the residents. Document the work allocation in the carers diary including allocation of fire marshal responsibility
Have knowledge of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and the establishment of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) Essential standards of quality and safety.
To assist in the safe running of the Home.

Ensure staff adhere to Yew Tree Nursing Home’s Policies and Procedures.
Ensure the home is kept clean and tidy.
Assist with the orientation/training of new staff.
Offer guidance to staff and monitor and discuss their progress with the Manager.
Document and report all accidents/incidents/assaults and complaints appropriately.
Assess each resident’s needs on a daily basis.
Evaluate care plans as directed ensuring they meet the resident’s needs.
Notify the Doctor and Manager of any untoward changes in a resident’s condition.
Undertake the safe administration of drugs maintaining accurate records with particular attention to controlled drugs.
Ensure that an entry has been made into the residents progress notes once every twenty four hours.
Delegate tasks to staff members by completing the carers diary.
Appoint fire marshals at the beginning of each shift.
Over see meal times ensuring individual dietary needs are meet
Liaise and maintain good relationships with residents, their family/friends.
Maintain good working relationships with other Health Care Professionals.
Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.
Ensure that all equipment is maintained and in good working order and report any faults to the Maintenance Manager and record in maintenance book promptly. Place out of order signs on equipment if required.

To supervise and partake in the provision of physical and psychological care for residents as agreed in their care plan ensuring all staff adhere to this and deliver a consistently high standard of care at all times
To ensure a culture of team working is maintained to ensure best practice
To develop good relationships with relatives, friends and visitors to ensure effective communication
To ensure core values are upheld at all times, remain professional and encourage the same from all staff at all times
To communicate well with the RN in charge of the shift regarding home life, residents throughout the day
To have a working knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures
To have full commitment to the Mission Statement
To work along side new or inexperienced staff to provide support and encourage development
To take on responsibilities to ensure best practice
To be aware of current legislation regarding Care Provision
To support the Manager and so facilitate the continuance of best practice
To play a positive role in the senior team
To direct and encourage all staff to participate in social activities with residents and to use all interactions with residents as an opportunity for stimulation/occupation
Ensure key workers fulfil their roles
Be proactive in delivering the Worcestershire model of care for residents with dementia, embedding it in daily practice
To check the correct type of meal is provided for each resident (i.e. normal, sort, puree, diabetic) as agreed with the RN in charge, deploy staff at meal times. Table settings and service.
Document maintenance / H & S concerns in the maintenance book, informing person responsible for H & S /maintenance and ensure staff do likewise.
Access to a vehicle is required due to the location of the home and lack of public transport to the village.
