We are currently seeking an experienced, dedicated and highly motivated Child and Adolescent Counsellor/Counselling Psychologist or Integrative Therapist, qualified to Level 7, to join our clinical team.


This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinician, fully registered with an appropriate professional or regulatory body (e.g., HCPC), who is passionate about supporting and working with children and young people to make a meaningful difference in their lives. We are looking for an individual who can combine clinical competence with a friendly and motivated approach and who can bring a high level of professionalism, flexibility and consistency to their therapeutic work.

The post requires someone who has experience of working with children and young people in SEMH school settings. You will deliver effective and responsive psychotherapeutically informed services across our school sites, with your base in the clinical service team offices at New Forest Care, ensuring you feel embedded in the wider clinical team.

Purpose of the post:

New Forest Care’s therapeutic approach is grounded in Attachment and Trauma Informed Care practice. The successful candidate will work in a team of clinicians, and alongside the Clinical Lead. You will be expected to deliver effective and responsive psychologically informed services, undertaking assessment and therapy within schools for children and young people up to the age of 18 years of age.


You will be responsible for direct work with the young people, offering assessments, formulation, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions. Therapeutic interventions are based on comprehensive assessment and formulation and demands a dynamic understanding of the young person. Therapy itself will be provided in response to an understanding of the individual child’s identified needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • To use appropriate clinical understanding in assessing children and young people to determine the most appropriate treatment plan for them
  • Able to develop and deliver personalised, evidence-based therapeutic interventions with due regard to issues of cultural, racial and religious difference and sexual orientation
  • Provide one-to-one counselling/therapy sessions
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in line with GDPR and ethical standards
  • Work independently while also demonstrating an ability to work collaboratively with the wider MDT
  • Demonstrate a commitment to CPD and supervision

Essential Requirements

  • Recognised counselling qualification (at Level 7 or equivalent)
  • Registration or accreditation with a UK professional body (e.g., HCPC, BACP, UKCP)
  • Experience in providing therapeutic assessment and intervention to children and young people in school settings
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to travel during the working day across school sites

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To maintain standards and monitor the delivery of high quality, child centred therapeutic care to children and young people referred to our services in accordance with New Forest Care policies and procedures
  • To liaise with internal and external professionals and family members as required
  • Provide assessment, formulation and psychotherapeutic support to children and young people requiring SEMH school placements and who may have lived experience of trauma and attachment challenges.
  • Able to develop and deliver personalised, evidence-based therapeutic interventions with due regard to issues of cultural, racial and religious difference and sexual orientation
  • Provide a specialist psychotherapeutic perspective on those children and young people we provide education for
  • Offer a consultation and reflective practice service to staff teams working alongside our children where appropriate
  • Consult with and provide specialist guidance and training to the wider staff teams where appropriate
  • Consult with and advise colleagues, both verbally and in written format, about the progress and emotional well-being of the children in our care
  • Develop and maintain excellent communication links with the wider staff at New Forest Care and with multi- agency professionals external to the organisation
  • Be responsible
    for relevant routine data collection on work activities, and maintain a high standard of record keeping
  • To carry out other duties as agreed with the Head of Clinical Services and their Deputies.
