We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.
We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!
Your role:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, empathetic, and caring officer, to fulfil the role as a resettlement support worker within our boroughwide resettlement team on a 2-year temporary contract.
The resettlement officer will support the wider resettlement team in managing the risks associated with cultural indifferences and the political attitudes and beliefs which impact engagement with this specified cohort.
This role will also support associated risks and safety which is linked to violence against women and girls.
Our resettlement support workers play an integral role to facilitate the smooth transition of non-UK nationals settling in the borough.
You will manage a caseload of non-UK nationals. You will develop a holistic service by providing advice, information, and guidance to those granted asylum or other leave to remain in the UK and how to access mainstream services.
You will provide individual support and practical advice for residents accessing Resettlement Services, as appropriate, to enable them to integrate into the community. You will also link in with other services in both the statutory and voluntary sectors as appropriate including local businesses.
You will work closely with other council and partnership teams.
About you:
Our ideal candidate will have knowledge of the UK Governments Asylum processes, ARAP (Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy) and Homes for the Ukraine and other routes for non-UK nationals settling in the UK, as this is key to the role. You will be expected to have an understanding of the key services clients will need to access to support successful integration into the community.
You will be a motivated and enthusiastic person with strong communication skills and be able to show compassion and empathy to others.
It is important that you have some knowledge around developing sustainable move on options for clients and of child and adult safeguarding issues and how to respond if issues arise.
You will be required to demonstrate your experience of working with vulnerable people and experience of partnership working to develop sustainable solutions and positive outcomes for client needs.
About us:
Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.
The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.
You will work as part of a fantastic partnership offer with a passion to make a real difference. This is a rewarding team that makes real difference to those most in need and thrives from taking new approaches.
Here at Wigan Council, we believe our workforce is our greatest asset and we will ensure you have the right support and a positive working environment to deliver outstanding support to our residents.
Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community. We like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits
