Relief Skipper (Seasonal)
Hours: 2–3 days per week (including some weekends), now until end of September, with possibility of extension.
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Relief Skipper to join our team. The Relief Skipper will be responsible for navigating and operating vessels, ensuring the safety of passengers and crew while maintaining compliance with maritime regulations. This role is essential in providing seamless transitions during shifts and ensuring that all operational standards are upheld.
Duties
- Navigate and operate the vessel safely and efficiently, adhering to all relevant maritime laws and regulations.
- Ensure the safety of all passengers and crew members by conducting regular safety drills and checks.
- Manage crew to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the vessel
- Maintain communication with the shore team and other vessels as necessary to ensure smooth operations.
- Monitor weather conditions and adjust course as needed to ensure safe travel.
- Oversee the maintenance of the vessel, reporting any issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist in training crew members on safety procedures and operational protocols.
- Prepare reports on operations, incidents, and maintenance activities as required.
Experience
- Previous experience as a Boatmaster or in a similar maritime role is essential.
- Valid maritime qualifications, including a Boatmaster licence, are required.
- Strong knowledge of navigation systems and maritime regulations is necessary.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage a team effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are important for liaising with crew members and passengers.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick decisions in emergency situations is crucial.
