Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Qualified PSV Mechanic to join our maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for keeping our fleet of buses safe, reliable, and roadworthy through planned maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repairs. You will play a key role in ensuring vehicles meet DVSA standards and pass MOT tests while minimizing downtime and ensuring operational efficiency.
You will also handle complex repairs, carry out detailed inspections, and maintain accurate service records. This role requires a proactive approach, strong technical knowledge, and a commitment to high safety and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake Routine Maintenance & Repairs: Carry out scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, and urgent repairs to keep vehicles in top condition.
- Fault Diagnosis: Use advanced diagnostic tools and technical expertise to identify and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues efficiently.
- Repair & Parts Replacement: Repair or replace damaged components, ensuring all work meets manufacturer and safety standards.
- Vehicle Inspections: Conduct thorough inspections in line with DVSA requirements and company policies.
- Pre-MOT & MOT Testing: Prepare vehicles for MOT inspections and carry out MOT testing where qualified.
- Documentation: Complete all job cards, inspection sheets, and service records accurately and on time to maintain compliance and audit readiness.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all work follows health and safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and company procedures.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other mechanics and engineers to plan maintenance schedules and share technical knowledge.
- Emergency Callouts: Respond promptly to breakdowns or urgent repairs to minimize service disruptions.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with industry standards, new technologies, and participate in ongoing training to enhance skills.
Requirements:
- Fully qualified PSV Mechanic (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
- Proven experience in maintaining and repairing public service vehicles or large commercial fleets.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- MOT tester qualification (preferred but not essential).
- Full, clean UK driving licence (Category B) – required.
- PSV licence (Category D or D1) – preferred for vehicle movement and testing.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
- Good IT and record-keeping skills to maintain accurate documentation.
- A proactive, safety-first attitude with excellent teamwork skills.
