About us

UCL (www.ucl.ac.uk) is one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary universities and hosts one of the largest concentrations of biomedical research in the world. We operate in a global context situated at the heart of one of the world’s greatest cities and are committed to excellence, innovation, and the promotion of global understanding in all our activities: research, teaching, learning, enterprise and community engagement.

The UCL Ear Institute

The UCL Ear Institute is a world-leading international centre for research and teaching related to understanding hearing and improving hearing, balance and ENT care. Our collaborative, multi-disciplinary institute has circa 75 staff working across basic and clinical sciences including genetics, cell and molecular biology, auditory systems neuroscience, cognitive and computational neuroscience, audiological sciences and ENT medicine. The UCL Ear Institute together with its partner, the Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat & Eastman Dental Hospitals, also hosts a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Theme in 'Hearing Health'. A RAND analysis of highly cited publications ranked UCL No.1 in England for both ‘Deafness and Hearing’ and for ‘Audiology and Speech & Language Pathology’.

Training the next generation of auditory scientists is a priority at the UCL Ear Institute. The Institute hosts three-and four-year PhD programmes in a wide range of basic and clinical disciplines, including genetics, cell and molecular biology, auditory neuroscience and human auditory function. It also offers a range of Master's-level programmes in audiology and audiovestibular research, as well as short courses for students and health-care professionals. An undergraduate BSc in Audiology was launched in 2022/23. To find out more about our research and teaching visit http://www.ucl.ac.uk/ear/.

The post holder will be expected to deliver a programme of research that integrates with the Institute’s current research profile and advances translational research related to auditory science. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to teaching and assessment at the Ear Institute for undergraduate and post-graduate Audiology programmes.
