JOB ROLE: Production Operative
JOB LOCATION: Harrogate
REPORTING TO: Production Supervisor
Shepley Spring are the UK's leading bottled water manufacturer with over 20 years' experience in production and are proud to remain a family run business to this day.
The company operates in three manufacturing facilities across Yorkshire and owns several high-speed production lines with the capabilities of producing both still and sparkling water servicing leading retailers such as Morrisons, Lidl, Booker Tesco and Sainsbury through private label and produces the brands Ice Valley® and White Rock® exclusively.
Summary:
The Production Operative is responsible for assisting in the smooth running of the production process across the site. This includes operating production machinery, handling materials, ensuring the quality of products, and operating a Forklift Truck (FLT) for the safe transportation of materials and finished goods within the production area.
The role ensures that production targets are met while maintaining high standards of safety, hygiene, and food quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Support:
- Assist in the operation of production machinery and equipment in line with standard operating procedures.
- Monitor production lines for quality control, ensuring products meet food safety and quality standards.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and adjustments on machinery to ensure efficient production.
- Pack, label, and prepare finished goods for storage or shipment, ensuring accuracy in quantities and labelling.
- Carry out quality checks and maintain records of production output.
Health and Safety Compliance:
- Ensure safe working practices in the production area and while operating the FLT, adhering to all relevant health and safety and food safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized working environment, ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety protocols (e.g., HACCP).
- Ensure that personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn at all times, and that equipment is used correctly.
- Follow lockout/tagout procedures when performing maintenance or repairs on machinery.
Material Handling and Inventory Management:
- Assist with the movement and storage of raw materials, packaging, and other supplies.
- Help maintain inventory records and assist in stock checks as required.
- Monitor material usage on production lines and inform supervisors when stock levels are low or reordering is needed.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of materials to prevent contamination or spoilage.
Team Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with other production operatives, machine operators, and supervisors to ensure the production process runs smoothly and efficiently.
- Communicate effectively with the production team to ensure any production issues are addressed promptly.
- Report any issues with production equipment, materials, or safety concerns to the supervisor or relevant team.
General Maintenance and Housekeeping:
- Assist with general housekeeping duties, including cleaning production areas, equipment, and storage areas.
- Follow food safety and hygiene procedures to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the production environment.
- Participate in routine cleaning and maintenance tasks in accordance with facility protocols.
Competencies:
- Previous experience working in a food and beverage manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Valid Forklift Truck (FLT) license with experience operating forklifts in a busy production or warehouse environment. (Desirable)
- Experience of CIP Systems (Desirable)
- Basic understanding of food safety, hygiene, and quality control processes in a manufacturing setting.
- Ability to work to a proficient level in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- TPM, Lean methodology Awareness.
- Ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting, carrying, and moving materials.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced FMCG environment while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrable experience and understanding of production line processes and machinery operation.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to tasks.
- Adaptable and flexible to meet the demands of the role.

Working Hours: 44 hours (Rotating shift pattern)
