About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated postdoctoral researcher to apply advanced data analytics and machine learning techniques to real-world clinical data in the field of viral hepatitis and liver disease. This post is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) as part of a significant research programme that leverages large-scale healthcare datasets to advance hepatitis B and liver disease research and to develop novel analytic approaches for NHS routine data.
You will be based at the University of Oxford, joining a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment supported by a team with broad expertise in data science, infectious diseases, hepatology, and clinical informatics. You will take a leading role in analysing large-scale, longitudinal electronic health records (EHRs) from multiple UK hospital centres using advanced data analytics including machine learning, deep learning, and statistical techniques—with a particular emphasis on deep learning approaches. You will develop novel, reproducible methods for analysing both structured and unstructured clinical data, generating insights into disease trajectories, predicting clinical outcomes, and enabling data-driven improvements in patient care. You will have opportunities to apply foundation models—including large language models (LLMs) to real-world clinical data. You will work with well-established data resources accessed within a secure Trusted Research Environment for large-scale analysis. This role offers excellent opportunities to engage with a broad network of collaborators including scientists, clinicians, and informaticians across NIHR HIC and NHS TVS SDE sites, academic institutions, and industry partners.
This post is fixed term for 18 months but may be extended.
