The countdown to net zero has begun. Through smart metering, installation, data services, EV charging, and the electrification of heat, solar, and battery storage, we are driving a more sustainable future while staying true to our core values. Our mission is clear: Delivering Smarter Energy For All.

As part of the UK’s journey towards its 2030 net zero target, we’re looking for Meter Readers to join our Field Operations team. In this role, you’ll travel to residential and commercial properties to take accurate utility meter readings and carry out visual inspections of metering equipment, recording all information using our company mobile app.

If you enjoy driving, meeting new people, working independently, and being outdoors in all weathers — while effectively managing your own schedule and maintaining a healthy work-life balance — this could be an excellent opportunity for you. Full training will be provided, so even if you do not have prior experience, we would welcome your application.

Please note: Applicants must have access to their own vehicle and either already hold basic business insurance cover or be willing to obtain it before starting the role. Applications from candidates who do not meet this essential requirement will not be considered.

Location:
Remote with travel throughout the postcode area that you will be covering
Hours: Full-time - 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday with flexible scheduling & overtime available.
Salary: £24,570 per annum + achievable bonuses + Milage paid (30.5p per mile)

What We’re Looking For:

Qualifications

  • Full driving licence valid for use in the UK with no more than 6 penalty points
  • Access to a suitable personal vehicle for work-related travel
  • Basic business insurance cover for vehicle use, or willingness to obtain this before starting

Experience & Knowledge

  • Experience in a customer-facing or public-facing role
  • Familiarity with digital tools or mobile apps for data entry
  • Understanding of data protection and confidentiality, including GDPR
  • Awareness of health and safety requirements relevant to lone or field-based working
  • Desirable: Experience in a driving-based role, preferably within the energy or utilities sector
  • Desirable: Knowledge of the metering industry and environmental considerations related to fieldwork
  • Desirable: Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions and managing challenging customer interactions

Technical Skills

  • Competent in using mobile applications or handheld devices
  • Numerate, with the ability to record and verify readings accurately
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage workload independently
  • Desirable: Ability to identify and report safety or technical issues with metering equipment
  • Desirable: Understanding of GPS mapping or route planning tools

Behavioural Skills

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently and as part of a wider team
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing business needs
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and respectful manner
  • Committed to Calisen’s values and promoting a strong health and safety culture

What We Offer
