Metalwork Lathe operator

Job Overview
We are seeking an XYZ Lathe Operator with some training / experience to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up / operating XYZ programmable lathe machines to produce precision components. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The XYZ Lathe Operator will play a crucial role in ensuring that production targets are met while maintaining high standards of quality.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate XYZ lathe machines according to specifications.
• Read and interpret technical drawings.
• Report maintenance requirements / faults on machines to ensure optimal performance.
• Assemble components as per production requirements ready for welding.
• Conduct quality checks using basic maths skills to ensure precision measurements.
• Handle materials safely and efficiently throughout the production process.
• Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues related to order queries and machinery.
• Utilise hand tools for adjustments and repairs as necessary.
• Maintain a clean and organised workspace in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Experience

• Some previous experience or college training as a XYZ or centre Lathe Operator or in a similar role (metalwork machining) is preferred.
• Familiarity with materials handling techniques is beneficial.
• Basic understanding of toolroom processes.
• Strong mathematical skills and logical reasoning abilities are essential for this position.
• Experience working with hand tools and machinery in an industrial setting is required.
• Other metalwork / workshop skills useful: eg: welding, milling & FLT operation
