Join the Commercial team at cardfactory as a Merchandise Planner – Cards Category!
Reporting into the Senior Merchandiser, you’ll help shape budgets and strategies that drive profitable growth for your category – all while supporting the wider commercial goals of the business.
You’ll also play a key role in developing and mentoring an Assistant Merchandiser, so it’s a great opportunity to step up and share your knowledge.
We need someone who’s confident making quick decisions and thinking on their feet. If you’ve got strong merchandising skills, a passion for learning and growing, and you’re excited to take ownership of your category’s success – we’d love to hear from you!
This is a hybrid role combining some days working from home and some at our support centre in Wakefield, with great links to the M1 and free parking.
What you’ll do
You’ll lead a customer-focused range that supports the agreed commercial strategy, with clear and measurable goals. Using data, market knowledge, and supplier insight, you’ll shape the range and set budgets to deliver on category plans. You’ll make sure space, product mix, and buying plans all align with the wider business strategy. Regular performance reviews will help you spot risks and opportunities, adjusting plans as needed.
You'll take ownership of your category’s stock – including WSSI, OTB, purchase orders, markdowns, clearance, and stock levels in stores and depots – making sure everything supports availability and supplier service targets. You’ll be part of weekly trade and post-implementation reviews, working with other teams to drive key actions and improvements.
You’ll also support cross-functional projects like flexible space planning, providing insights and tracking results. Working closely with the Allocation team, you'll review forecasts to ensure they match business plans and take action where needed.
Supplier relationships will be key – you’ll build joint plans, track performance, and, where needed, work with global teams to find the best sourcing options. You’ll plan stock flow in and out, flagging any issues with logistics or supply, and help deliver a great customer experience by hitting key milestones and solving problems quickly.
What you’ll need:
- Merchandising experience, ideally from Card/Gifting or a non-food multi-channel retail
- Ability to deliver results and work to targets
- To be comfortable working in a fast-moving dynamic retail environment
- Confidence to influence and engage your stakeholders
