Key Responsibilities
As a Locum Specialist Registrar in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, your responsibilities will include:
- Clinical Care:
- Deliver high-quality care for patients in obstetrics and gynaecology settings, including clinics, delivery suite, theatre, and ward rounds.
- Manage antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care for women, ensuring safety and effective management of complex cases.
- Perform routine and emergency gynaecological surgeries and procedures, including laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and caesarean sections.
- Support in labour ward management, including induction of labour, monitoring, and obstetric emergency care.
- Manage acute obstetric emergencies (e.g., pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, post-partum hemorrhage, etc.) and gynae emergencies (e.g., ectopic pregnancies, pelvic abscesses).
- On-Call Duties:
- Participate in on-call shifts as required (e.g., 1 in 7 or 1 in 10 depending on rota and Trust requirements).
- Attend emergency cases and provide support to juniors and medical students during urgent situations.
- Supervision and Teaching:
- Provide supervision and teaching to junior doctors, medical students, and midwives within the department.
- Participate in educational and clinical governance activities, including audits, clinical meetings, and departmental training.
- Clinical Governance:
- Participate in departmental meetings such as Mortality & Morbidity (M&M), clinical audits, and quality improvement projects.
- Contribute to maintaining high standards of patient safety, care, and documentation.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
- Work closely with consultants, senior medical staff, midwifery teams, and other healthcare professionals in the delivery of high-quality care.
- Participate in regular MDT meetings, case reviews, and management discussions.
Key Requirements
- Essential:
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice
- MRCOG Part 1 or equivalent qualification
- 2+ years of post-foundation experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
- Valid ALS (Advanced Life Support) certification
- Right to work in the UK (settled/pre-settled status or valid visa)
- Enhanced DBS check
- Occupational Health clearance
- Desirable:
- MRCOG Part 2 or equivalent experience
- Previous experience as an SPR in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
- Strong interest in teaching and clinical leadership
- Ability to manage complex clinical cases under supervision or independently
- Flexibility to cover night shifts, weekend rotas, and emergency calls.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: £80.00-£105.00 per hour
