The Role
We are seeking a highly motived, enthusiastic educator to join the MSc in Physician Associate Studies Programme team.
The primary role is to deliver postgraduate education to physician associate students in years one and two. You will contribute to all aspects of the programme including teaching delivery and planning, curriculum development, student experience and recruitment. You will also contribute to all aspects of academic life within Newcastle University’s School of Medicine and the broader Faculty of Medical Sciences.
The MSc in Physician Associate Studies Programme has been running at Newcastle University since 2016.
The programme draws from the extensive academic and clinical expertise in the School of Medicine as well as our clinical educators in primary and secondary care within our region.
The core team is a multidisciplinary team consisting of doctors, physician associates, nurses and academics. Our PA students and graduates are highly regarded as knowledgeable, motivated and highly skilled healthcare professionals. Many of our alumni remain involved with the programme through teaching and assessment.
The programme is part of the School of Medicine alongside MBBS, Medical Education programmes, Clinical Science programmes and Interventional Nephrology.
The School of Medicine is focussed on the development and delivery of undergraduate and post-graduate taught programmes in Medicine. The school has a reputation of delivering high quality education and training, which is underpinned by the selection and development of excellent educators who are encouraged to experiment, innovate, and engage with scholarship in education. The school supports the development of skills in medical education through our own Master’s in Medical Education programme. We are also an international medical school, with a campus in Malaysia which runs the same medical degree programme as in Newcastle UK.

Key Accountabilities
- Develop and deliver evidence led teaching on the MSc in Physician Associate Studies Postgraduate Taught Programme,
- Participate in the development and delivery of student assessments,
- Provide pastoral and academic support for students as a personal tutor,
- Participate in the leadership and management of the programme across all areas,
- Participate in administration and quality processes as required,
- To carry out research in medical education with a physician associate focus.
The Person
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
- A number of years post qualification clinical experience,
- Experience of teaching physician associate students or graduates in university and clinically,
- Extensive knowledge of the PA role and how it fits into the NHS workforce,
- PGCert in Higher Education or Fellowship of the HEA (or willingness to achieve within 3 years),
- Experience in developing and delivering student assessment at postgraduate or undergraduate level,
- Experience of supervising student research/audit projects at postgraduate or undergraduate level,
- Experience of providing academic and pastoral support to students,
- Experience in using and developing technology enhanced learning (TEL) when teaching postgraduates or undergraduates.
Desirable:
- Experience of coordinating and leading modules or training programmes in higher education,
- Proven ability to mentor junior staff,
- Experience of programme/module quality assurance processes.

Qualifications
Essential:
- PGDip/MSc in Physician Associate Studies.
Desirable:
- Teaching Qualification.
