Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant/cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting the kitchen staff by assisting with food preparation, the cooking of food, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring adherence to food safety standards. This position is perfect for individuals who are passionate about cooking and eager to learn in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of ingredients for meals, including washing, chopping, and measuring food items.
- Support chefs and cooks in the kitchen by performing various tasks as required.
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen workspace by washing dishes, utensils, and equipment.
- Ensure that all food safety guidelines are followed to prevent contamination.
- Help with meal assembly and plating as directed by senior kitchen staff.
- Follow instructions from head chefs or kitchen managers to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a restaurant or catering environment is essential.
- Knowledge of food preparation techniques and culinary skills is advantageous.
- Understanding of food safety practices and hygiene standards is required (LEVEL 2).
- Ability to work efficiently in a team or independently while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively in a busy kitchen setting.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced kitchen staff.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including split shifts, evenings and weekends as needed.
