Are you passionate about food, community, and making a difference? St Vincent's Support Centre in Leeds is looking for a friendly and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our vibrant Community Café team.
About the Role
As a Kitchen Assistant, you’ll help prepare and serve simple, nutritious meals and drinks in a welcoming café environment. You’ll support the Café Manager in delivering excellent customer service and contribute to the smooth running of the café throughout the week.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals such as breakfasts, jacket potatoes, soups, and desserts
- Serve hot and cold drinks, take orders, and handle cash transactions
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen and café area
- Support volunteers and assist with catering for events and buffets
- Help with stock control, ordering, and completing relevant paperwork
- Build positive relationships with café users, staff, and volunteers
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Previous experience in catering and customer service
- Good level of education
- Strong understanding of food hygiene and health & safety
- Excellent communication and food preparation skills
- Friendly, organised, and able to stay calm under pressure
Desirable:
- Level 2 Food Hygiene or Food Safety Certificate
- Emergency First Aid at Work qualification
- Experience in the voluntary sector or understanding of local community issues
